Shipments are during month of July for the lower mainland BC. Pre-ordering is recommended as we run out of stock very quickly. Any orders prior to July are considered a pre-order.
Optimal application time:
- IN the lower mainland BC: is late July to early September. This is when the eggs have just hatched and the grubs are at their most vulnerable.
- Everywhere else: In the spring (May) when soil temperature is 10C (50F) or warmer and grubs are seen in the soil. An application will stop grubs from damaging your grass roots. AND/OR Apply in autumn (end of August to September) eliminating grubs thus preventing fall and following springs damage.

Helpful hints: Length of grass and nematode applications
How long should grass be when I apply the nematodes? It is best if the grass is between 1 to 2 inches in length. The nematodes need to be easily washed into the soil from the blades of the grass.
Should grass be kept moist after the nematodes have been applied? Yes, the lawn should be wet for 3 to 4 day after the application. This allows the nematodes to find the grubs and start to control this pest.
How much time should pass before the grass is first cut after the nematodes have been applied? You can mow your grass the next day.
SPECIAL NOTES:
- Beneficial nematodes are most effective when soil is moist and remains moist for 3 to 5 days after application. Lawn Guardian is easy to apply using a hose-end sprayer and comes with full instructions inside the foil package. Do not apply in direct sunlight – Overcast, or in the late evening is best.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Water lawn prior to application until saturated. Nematodes travel in water so more water depth will allow them to hunt further.
- Open Lawn Guardian beneficial nematode package, remove sponge and place in 4L of water and wring out the sponge 5 to 10 times (Use 6 litres of water for 25 million, and 10L for 50 million). Also rinse out the plastic bag to release any remaining nematodes stuck inside, and then remove bag and sponge (please recycle). This will make a nematode concentrate which will be mixed with 80% more water when running through a hose end sprayer on the correct setting of 80:1.
- Prior to filling the Hose End Sprayer bottle – vigorously stir the nematode concentrate each time you fill up the sprayer, as the nematodes are heavy and fall to the bottom – this ensures an even distribution.
- Apply nematode concentrate with a clean hose-end sprayer (Use setting A on our sprayer for 80:1).
- Use all Lawn Guardian within a 2hour period or they may run out of oxygen in the water.
- Rinse the lawn down briefly to make sure none of the nematodes got stuck in the grass, and are able to get down to the soil.
- Keep the soil moist for at least 3 days to allow them to hunt.
