How do I get rid of clover on my lawn?

While clover is a natural part of a lawn, sometimes there may be more than you would like to see. Especially if you have little white flowers popping up everywhere.

You could try some types of weed killers I suppose, but they will quite often damage the lawn around the area as well.

The best way to fight off unwanted plants and weeds in your lawn is to keep a healthy lawn maintenance schedule. http://mylawn.care/2019/06/26/break-the-cycle-why-lawn-maintenance-is-just-as-important-as-lawn-repair/

Normally, there would be an article on this topic for MyLawn.Care specifically. However, there is a very good article on wikihow that covers everything clearly. https://www.wikihow.com/Remove-White-Clover-from-a-Lawn

Below is a summary of said article.

  • Regular over-seeding will keep your lawn thick and choke out most weeds and unwanted plants, including clover.
  • Even though clover produces nitrogen (which is most often the primary ingredient in fertilizer), it does not like soils with high nitrogen content and therefore regular fertilizing will help deter it. http://mylawn.care/2019/06/12/why-does-lawn-fertilizer-matter-for-healthy-turf/
  • If you mow the lawn when the flowers are in bloom, you may cause more of it to grow because you run the risk of spreading the seeds all over the place.
  • If you are in a hurry to get rid of it and do not want to wait for your lawn to naturally reduce it through regular maintenance:
    • Pulling it out by hand and getting the whole root is the most effective method as well as less damaging to the good lawn around the area. (Albeit time consuming if there is a large build up)
    • If removed by hand, you will want to add some top soil and grass seed to the area to make sure something else does not grow in its place.

We at MyLawn.Care have taken all of this into account and have created lawn Care Packs made specifically to perform in the British Columbia climate. Just spread it and enjoy the results!
